Commercial Manager (M&E) 

I am representing an M&E Contractor who were founded in 2007 and who turnover £30,000,000.  

Based out of their Surrey Office, they employ 50 staff along with Sub Contractors.

As a business, they do everything from Design, Supply, Installation, Testing & Commissioning across multiple disciplines including Centralised Plant Rooms, HVAC, Public Health and Water Treatment.

Specialising in Projects from Residential, Commercial, Leisure, Healthcare and Education which are a mix of New Builds & Refurbs.

Currently have 18 Live sites across London & Kent.

They are now seeking a Commercial Manager to join the team in their Surrey Office.
 

THE JOB – Commercial Manager

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Commercial Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the commercial aspects of multiple M&E projects, ensuring financial performance, compliance with contractual obligations, and effective risk management. The Commercial Manager will play a key role in developing and implementing strategies to maximize profitability, maintain client relationships, and drive sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities:


Financial Management

  • Lead the financial management of M&E projects, including cost control, budgeting, and forecasting to ensure profitability.
  • Monitor project expenditure and provide regular reports on financial performance to senior management.
  • Oversee cash flow management, including invoicing, payment applications, and timely collections.
  • Ensure robust cost control systems are in place to manage and track variations, additional works, and project changes.
 
Contract Management
  • Review and negotiate contracts with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure favourable terms and compliance with company standards.
  • Ensure that all contractual obligations are fully understood and met, including risk management and dispute resolution.
  • Manage the contractual relationships throughout the project lifecycle, from tender stage to project completion and final account settlement.
  • Handle claims management, including assessment, negotiation, and resolution of claims and disputes.
 
Risk Management
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate commercial risks across M&E projects to protect the company’s financial interests.
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies, ensuring that risks are adequately controlled and managed throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead the resolution of disputes and manage contractual claims to avoid litigation.
 
Procurement and Supply Chain
  • Collaborate with procurement teams to ensure the timely and cost-effective sourcing of materials and subcontractors.
  • Negotiate favourable terms with suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring alignment with project requirements and budgets.
  • Monitor supply chain performance and address any issues that could impact project timelines or budgets.
 
Client & Stakeholder Management
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and other key stakeholders.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for commercial matters with clients, providing regular updates on financial status and contractual issues.
  • Address client concerns and negotiate solutions that protect the company’s commercial interests while maintaining client satisfaction.
 
Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead and mentor a team of quantity surveyors and commercial staff, fostering a high-performance culture and supporting their professional development.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other internal teams to ensure commercial objectives are aligned with overall project goals.
  • Provide commercial guidance and support to project teams to ensure effective decision-making and risk management.
 
Reporting & Analysis
  • Prepare and present detailed financial and commercial reports to senior management, highlighting key performance indicators, risks, and opportunities.
  • Conduct regular financial reviews and project audits to ensure compliance with budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Analyse market trends and provide insights to inform future business strategies and bidding opportunities.
