The Company

The company is a well-established building services consultancy, now in its 10th year. It has a strong presence within the industry and acts as the sole consultancy for several loyal architects and project managers in the UK and across Europe. Projects span commercial, high end residential, retail, hospitality and mixed-use developments.

The Role
The company is seeking a competent Mechanical Engineer to take ownership of mechanical design delivery across multiple projects. Responsibilities include HVAC design, calculations, pipe sizing, equipment selection, specification writing and attendance at client and design team meetings. The role also involves overseeing and delegating tasks to junior engineers, while maintaining overall project control. There is scope to develop commercially, including involvement in fee proposals and project resourcing.

Current Project Examples
The company works on a diverse range of projects across the UK and Europe, including high end residential, commercial, hospitality and mixed-use developments. Current work includes listed building refurbishments, large scale commercial fit outs, residential developments, flexible workspace designs and restaurant projects, at various stages from early design through to completion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mechanical design of building services systems, including HVAC
  • Carrying out Hevacomp calculations and thermodynamic modelling
  • Producing clear reports and specifications
  • Taking full ownership of projects and leading meetings
  • Supporting and mentoring junior and trainee engineers
  • Identifying and nurturing talent within the team
  • Proactively addressing issues and presenting solutions
  • Contributing to project programming, fee proposals and time management

Skills and Experience
  • Minimum of 4 to 6 years’ experience in building services engineering
  • Degree qualification highly desirable
  • Strong communication skills
  • Confidence leading meetings and engaging with clients
  • Ability to work accurately, independently and efficiently
  • Proactive and self-motivated with willingness to self-teach
  • Commercial awareness of project delivery
  • Competence in Microsoft Word and Excel; AutoCAD, Bluebeam or Drawboard beneficial but not essential
  • Experience with IES and Hevacomp advantageous
  • Ability to inspire confidence in clients and junior engineers
